contourWhen you look in the mirror you see every minor defect on your face, eyebrows, hair, lips, nose, and teeth. The tiniest pimple or freckle may look huge to you. When people look at you, they usually notice two things the most: your teeth and your eyes. Well, there is not much you can do about your eyes except make sure your eyebrows are plucked and neat (if you’re a women at least), and that your glasses are clean, but there are a lot of things you can do for the minor imperfections on your teeth. One of the easiest is dental contouring.

Are You a Candidate for Contouring?

Candidates for dental contouring include people with teeth that are too large, excessively pointy (vampire) teeth, teeth with small chips, misshapen teeth, uneven teeth, raggedy-edged teeth, or teeth that slightly overlap. To undergo dental contouring, however, your enamel must be healthy. If enamel erosion is present, contouring cannot be performed. The reason for this is because contouring involves removing tooth enamel.

The Procedure

Although considered a minimally invasive procedure, tooth contouring involves the removal of a small amount of tooth enamel. It is an easy, painless procedure that can be performed in one visit. By marking your teeth to highlight specific areas, Dr. Dooley will know exactly what parts of your enamel to remove. Utilizing a dental drill or sanding instrument Dr. Dooley will artfully reshape or resize your teeth. In the process, as little enamel will be removed as possible.

Bonding and Contouring

Dental contouring and dental bonding are two diverse treatments. Bonding fills in spaces and builds up teeth, contouring removes tooth structure, but often they are used together to achieve effective and aesthetic results. Bonding and contouring are also affordable procedures. So for $50 to possibly $300 per tooth, you can smile into that mirror with confidence.
